Prof Dr Catherine E. de Vries

Catherine E. de Vries is Professor of Political Science and Vice Dean for Political and International Studies at the IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs, IE University, Madrid.

Her research examines the interplay between international cooperation and domestic politics, including European politics, populism and the far right, political fragmentation, public service provision and corruption. Before joining IE in 2025, she held professorships at Bocconi University, the University of Oxford and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her books include Euroscepticism and the Future of European Integration (2018) and Political Entrepreneurs (2020, with Sara B. Hobolt). She is an Honorary Professor at Queen's University Belfast.

Catherine holds a PhD in Political Science from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
