Featured Research

We explore the role and significance of political risk insurance (PRI) in encouraging foreign direct investment (FDI) in developing countries, particularly least developed countries (LDCs). The analysis, co-authored by Professor Andreas Klasen, provides an overview of the importance of reducing the risks associated with FDI in achieving the SDGs, and examines the main tools available for this purpose. Key industry trends are highlighted, including major providers, primary recipients, and the geographical and sectoral distribution of projects supported by PRI. The paper analyses the main challenges and opportunities faced by PRI providers in enhancing flows into SDG-related sectors in developing countries, with a focus on LDCs. Finally, the conclusion sets out five policy recommendations designed to enhance PRI’s contribution to the SDGs.
